The new AIR 40 from Southwest Windpower is an all-around upgrade for the already bestselling AIR turbine series. With new automated and computerized controls over blade speed and power output, the AIR 40 sets new standards for efficiency in its class.
Unlike earlier AIR modules, wihch relied on aero-elastic blades flexing to protect the turbine in high wind, the AIR 40's control circuits monitor output and reduce the turbine's speed as it nears maximum output. This greatly reduces blade noise in all wind speeds.
Also, the new onboard charge controller frequently checks your batteries state of charge, and shuts off all power output when the batteries reach full charge. The closer your batteries read to the tubrine's voltage setting, the more frequently their voltage is checked, eliminating the possibility of any overcharge damage. The AIR's exclusive Auto-brake feature slows the blades to a silent spin as soon as your batteries are charged, extending bearing life and reducing noise. This also means the AIR 40 works with any size battery bank, from 25 to 25,000 amp hours.
From the manufacturer:
AIR 40 is the best choice to provide energy for off-grid homes, water pumping, lighting, telecom and anywhere you need electricity and have wind. AIR 40’s optimized electronic controls deliver energy quietly and efficiently. Extensive third party testing and certificaiton shows more consistent output than the competition. AIR 40 is part of the latest generation of AIR products—the world’s best-selling wind turbines—with more than 135,000 units sold in more than 120 countries.
We recommend AIR 40 for small battery-charging applications: remote homes, telecom, industry, lighting and more. The AIR 40 is an ideal wind turbine for hybrid systems with solar to offset those cloudy or wintery periods. Not for use in marine environments. AIR 40 is built and backed by the worldwide leader in small wind.
