Upgraded from the Whisper H175, The Whisper 500, 3000 watt wind turbine is perfect for larger remote systems, village power projects or farm and ranch applications. Durable enough for harsh, high wind inland installation, the Whisper 500 is a serious power source for a medium size small wind turbine.

With a start-up speed of only 7.5mph (3.4m/s), and a maximum output of 500+ kWh per month in only 12mph (5.4m/s) average winds, the WHI-500 can possibly power an entire average home.

Included with the Whisper 500 is a Southwest Windpower Controller.
Which also includes a diversion load to ensure quiet, safe operation of the wind turbine when batteries are charged, which protects both the wind turbine and the batteries. It allows easy integration of an anemometer to measure wind speeds, and the compact design fits easily into any battery room. Add the optional LCD display and you will receive real time data on the performance of the Whisper Wind Turbine, including current and maximum amperage and battery voltage, kWh production, and peak and average wind speed (with anemometer). The Display can be mounted on the controller or up to 1000 feet (300 meters) away!

Exclusive to the Whisper line of wind turbines is the side-furling Angle-Governor system. By turning the alternator and blades away from the wind, the turbine is protected in extreme high wind, while still maintaining maximum power output. Other turbines can lose up to 80% of their power output if their furling mechanism is activated.

The WHI-500 is NOT owner-installable. Due to its size, the Whisper 500 requires a concrete tower foundation, and in many cases a crane to lift the turbine into position.

Why use small wind turbines? Solar and wind can often compliment each other. Generally when it is sunny it is calm and when it is cloudy it is windy. This complimentary effect is even greater during seasonal changes.
