IMPORTANT: We are discontinuing carrying ES&D. We have one 4-nozzle Stream Engine SE unit left in stock at our Renton, WA location. Once it has been sold it will be removed from our web store.
ES&D's Stream Engine is unique among Impulse-style micro-hydro turbines: it can produce power well in both relatively low head (down to ~5 feet) and high head sites. You can produce approximately the same amount of power from 6 ft. of head and 400 gpm water flow as you can from 400 ft. of head and 6gpm water flow. 5 feet of head requires a minimum of 40 gpm.
The Stream Engine features a brushless Permanent Magnet alternator driven by a bronze Turgo-style runner. The Turgo style runner is better suited for high-flow installations than the Pelton runner, because water can escape the turbine more efficiently, minimizing efficiency losses from backpressure and water friction.
The 4 nozzle Stream Engine is preferred for installations with higher flow-rates. Extra nozzles can be ordered, and cut to different output diameters to adjust your turbine for seasonal fluctuations in water flow volume. An optimal Stream Engine installation can produce up to 1kW of power. The Stream Engine includes an integrated voltage rectifier, simplifying installation, and can produce 12, 24 or 48 volt DC output. A simple change of wiring at the junction box allows this turbine to be adjustable to 12, 24 or 48 volt DC and optimize output
