An electrical shunt is a precision resistor, which creates a tiny voltage drop relative to the current flowing through it. When used with a battery/system meter, the shunt is wired to intercept the overall system current flow. The meter measures the shunt's voltage drop, and uses it to calculate the overall performance of the power system.
